Chinook is the county seat of Blaine County.  It is a small rural community located on the Milk River in north central Montana.  With a population of 1600, Chinook celebrates people that are pleasant, friendly and caring, Blaine County Courthousereflecting a safe community for children to freely enjoy growing up in a quickly changing world. 

The history of Chinook dates back to the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. Back in the 1920’s, they heyday of the agricultural industry in Montana, Chinook had a massive Sugar Beet factory. Today, this factory is closed. Oil and gas discoveries have also from time to time given the local economy a boost. Yet, even today, Chinook remains a agricultural community.

Chinook is a well kept town that enhances the beauty of the many new facilities which house a variety of businesses aChinook Swimming Poolnd service agencies.  Three community parks have been established for the convenience and enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.  Sweet Park and the Centennial Park are a few of the examples of outstanding family fun, including the new city swimming pool.

 Walking down the street, everyone always waves and has a friendly smile.  Anywhere you go, you will run into someone you know and usually stop and talk just to catch up.  Downtown

The location of Chinook is quite nice. It is located on Highway 2, about 20 miles to the east of Havre. Local attractions include the Blaine County Museum which highlights the history of farming and mining in and around the Chinook area. Other attractions include the Wildlife Museum and the Bear Paw Battlefield, which is part of Nez Perce National Historical Park and Nez Perce National Historic Trail. The battlefield highlights the last battle between the Nez Perce Tribe and the US Army. The battlefield is full of educational markers and is located about 16 miles south of town.

 Chinook High School Chinook has always had reason to be proud of its educational system.  A varied and diversified curriculum is offered to all students in grades K-12.  Students of Chinook "Sugarbeeters" consisitently provide a wide range of entertainment to the community thru concerts, plays, ball games and group visits to local organizations.

churchThere are many churches in Chinook to provide spiritual guidance.  Chinook is a small community that supports several religious beliefs.
